International Trauma Life Support
Kentucky Chapter
International Trauma Life Support recently changed its name at the international
level to reflect the growth and impact of the organization over the last 25 years.
We’ve changed our chapter name to communicate our partnership with ITLS and
ITLS chapters around the world.

John Campbell, MD, FACEP, founded BTLS in Alabama 25 years ago as a small
regional program. Today, ITLS supports 70 chapters around the world and has
trained more than 300,000 emergency professionals, including emergency
medical technicians, paramedics, nurses, and physicians.

The Kentucky Chapter of ITLS will begin using its new name and logo
immediately. The content of our training courses will not change; however, over
time all course names and materials will transition from BTLS to ITLS. The
chapter will provide new ITLS certification cards to BTLS-certified providers in
Kentucky when they complete their next recertification or refresher courses.

If there are references to Basic Trauma Life Support, BTLS or the Kentucky
Chapter of BTLS in your training materials, communications materials or
regulations, please revise them to reflect the new International Trauma Life
Support, ITLS and Kentucky Chapter of ITLS names.

We’re proud of our progress and excited about our new name. We look forward
to working with you to support high-quality pre-hospital trauma training and care
in Kentucky.
